Hednesford manager Rob Smith today called for a repeat of "the Lord Mayor's Show" against Chester when they look to leapfrog the league leaders on Saturday.

Three tough away trips in seven days culminates at play-off chasing FC United of Manchester, while the table-toppers host Mickleover Sports.

Both are neck-and-neck at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, level on points after Hednesford won at Chester last weekend.

But Smith's men have already passed up one chance to go top, after they fell to their first defeat of 2012 in a 1-0 loss at Marine on Tuesday night.

That left Chester with a game in hand but, at the moment, all the Pitmen have to do at Gigg Lane is better their result to reach the summit.

Smith said: "Marine is out of the way now, we look to Saturday and we have to make sure we come away from FC United with something.

"Hopefully, we will put in a performance like the Lord Mayor's Show last week and the key thing is to not to get beat.

"With the month we have had, we have done well to get where we are and we can't lose sight of that.

"But there's going to be a few twists and turns yet, every week something could go in your favour.

"For instance, next week they go to Chorley and we have got Burscough, so what could happen then?"
