Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes will take his squad to Alsager for a specially-arranged friendly as he looks to put their free time to good use.

Rangers do not have another midweek game until February 28, when Northwich come to Marston Road in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

And Clowes is keen to ensure his squad's match fitness doesn't dip, having booked tonight's game and a trip to Eccleshall on Tuesday January 24.

Midfielders Dan Skelton and Michael Morton will get a chance to prove their fitness, after illness and injury respectively.

Captain Paul Donnelly, Joe Rogers and goalkeeper Jordan Wood will also figure at the Town Ground, as will trialist Jemiah Richards.

The former Rangers defender is back at Marston Road trying to earn a deal and will be assessed on his performance tonight.

Clowes returns to the club where he started his managerial career and he believes he has lined up a suitable test against the Bullets, who are managed by John Brown.

The Rangers boss said: "This game is, basically, to keep the lads in shape who are not playing games. I am trying to keep everybody fit.

"John is a very good friend of mine and he's been chopping and changing of late, so he will be searching for different things as well.

"I only live three miles from the ground and I have a lot of friends at Alsager, so I am looking forward to it."
