Long-serving Chasetown boss Charlie Blakemore is stepping down as manager.

Blakemore, who has guided the Scholars to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier and the third round of the FA Cup during his eight-year spell, is quitting his role because of work commitments.

The former Wolves reserve, who also played for Stourbridge, Rushall and Willenhall, is managing director of a division of the aerospace company BAE Systems and feels he cannot commit enough time to Chasetown.

Former Stafford Rangers boss Chris Brindley will take over following Saturday's game with Rangers.

Blakemore said: "I have had to miss four games already this season due to work commitments but I very much want to help to create some more in the future with the new management team.

"I have known Chris for a long time and I think he is a great appointment. He knows the club and the level well and has a good network."
