Stafford Rangers defender Grant Goodhead has left Marston Road for a second time - but manager Greg Clowes has refused to close the door on another return.

Goodhead hasn't kicked a competitive since Clowes took over as manager in the summer, after badly breaking his toe before pre-season started.

And the centre-half has told the Rangers boss by text he doesn't plan to come back at all, bringing to an end his second spell at the club.

The 26-year-old joined his hometown team in February of last year but was let go at the start of last season by then-manager Chris Brindley, after picking up a hernia injury.

After an operation, Goodhead returned while Matt Elliott was in charge and signed up for this season when the new manager arrived in June.

But Clowes hasn't been able to get him fully fit, either, and has expressed his dismay at the situation.

He said: "Grant has sent me a text and it's frustrating, because he's a lad we could do with, but we are talking about someone who hasn't even pulled a strip on for Stafford Rangers this season.

"His season hasn't got going, his foot isn't healing as well as it should have done, he's involved in martial arts and has work commitments."
