Adam Corbett is aiming to stand tall
West Bromwich's Adam Corbett is aiming to be standing tall when he takes in his second fight as a professional at Walsall Town Hall next month.
West Bromwich's Adam Corbett is aiming to be standing tall when he takes in his second fight as a professional at Walsall Town Hall next month.
Corbett boxes again on October 8, four months after a points win on his debut at the same venue against Doncaster's James Tucker.
Tucker came to fight that night but Corbett used his height and reach advantage to keep the durable journeyman at bay in their four-rounder.
The 6ft 2ins light heavyweight has the ideal build for his division and is now looking to get more experience under his belt as the year wares on.
The 26-year-old spent nearly five years out of the ring after his amateur career before returning this year and wants to make up for lost time.
And Corbett will be looking to play to his strengths as he continues to find his feet in the pro game.
He said: "I feel I have taken a step forward and learned a bit more, while working on the skills I have.
"I like to box behind the jab and use my reach and, the more experience you gain, the more second nature it will become.
"I want to keep learning and get better every time and, hopefully, everything will come together nicely on October 8."
Corbett feels a weight has been lifted off his shoulders after blowing away the ring rust in his last fight.
He said: "It was a relief to get my first fight out of the way and I thought he was a lot tougher opponent than his record suggests.
"I started well for the first couple of rounds, slowed down and then picked it back up again towards the end.
"I need a bit more experience to handle that situation."
