Tommy Wright set for Harriers debut
Kidderminster Harriers could hand a debut to Tommy Wright at Mansfield after signing the free agent to plug the gap left by the suspension to striker Steve Guinan.
Kidderminster Harriers could hand a debut to Tommy Wright at Mansfield after signing the free agent to plug the gap left by the suspension to striker Steve Guinan.
Wright was not bound by the constraints of the transfer window, having been released by Darlington earlier this month, and has signed non-contract forms.
The 26-year-old started his career with hometown club Leicester and made 26 appearances for the Foxes, winning caps at England under-19 and under-20 level.
The forward has also played for Brentford, Blackpool, Barnsley, Walsall, Aberdeen and Grimsby, with Harriers becoming his ninth club.
With Guinan's three-match ban starting in tomorrow's Blue Square Premier game, Wright's arrival at Aggborough is timely and manager Steve Burr hasn't ruled out a permanent deal.
He said: "This is a deal that suits both parties really, especially with us losing Steve Guinan for three games now.
"Tommy is a good player and someone who is keen to come in and prove himself. He has a good opportunity to come and try and earn himself something more permanent.
"We are looking forward to working with him."
Wright could be pitched in for his debut at Field Mill but Jamille Matt, Nick Wright and Luke Medley are also in contention to replace Guinan.
And the Harriers new-boy already feels at home at Aggborough, as he looks for a place to stay.
He said: "The lads have been top class and everything has gone well, I am delighted to be signing.
"It gives me the opportunity to earn a permanent contract and that is what the manager has said - he hasn't signed me to make up the numbers.
"I have got to come in and make an impact and do well for the football club, as well as grabbing a few goals.
"There are some good players in the dressing room and the club looks in good shape."
