Kidderminster Harriers striker Steve Guinan today issued a public apology after his sending off at Fleetwood saw him banned for the next three games.
The FA confirmed the suspension yesterday after Guinan saw red, for striking Jamie McGuire with 28 minutes gone of Harriers' 5-2 defeat in the Blue Square Premier on Tuesday night.
It's only the fourth dismissal of the veteran's 18-year career and the first for violent conduct, having previously been sent off for Cheltenham, Forest Green and Hereford.
The 35-year-old, top scorer with three goals, misses Saturday's game at Mansfield, Tuesday's visit of Grimsby and next weekend's trip to Kettering.
And Guinan has taken the blame for the incident on the chin.
He said: "I should have known better, at my age, and I apologised to the lads and the gaffer for what I did. I take responsibility for it and I hold my hands up.
"It's annoying that I am missing the three games, but it's more annoying that I let myself down and I let the team down."
Guinan walked at the same time as Fleetwood forward Jamie Vardy, who was dismissed for a two-footed tackle on Harriers right-back Lee Vaughan.
Vaughan had already been clattered by Gareth Seddon after just 33 seconds of the match, but it that was challenge that sparked the melee where Guinan clashed with McGuire.
Referee Tony Harrington only sent one of them off but the Harriers striker believes, if anything, they both should have gone.
He said: "It was a two-footed challenge from one of their players that instigated the whole thing and there were two naughty challenges before that, where they'd had two players booked.
"A melee ensued where we all gathered around the referee to ensure their lad was sent off because, if he had caught him properly, he could have broken Lee's leg.
"Their player kept trying to push me away in the face, the lad came at me three times, I have done the same thing back and he's thrown himself on the floor like a pansy, like he'd been right hooked by Mike Tyson!
"By rights, he should have walked as well."
