Black Country schoolgirl tennis star Lisa Colling has smashed her way into the top 100.

Lisa has climbed the league for England, Scotland and Wales after winning the Staffordshire singles championship.

She lives off Burton Road, Dudley, and trains at Tipton Sports Academy and the David Lloyd centre, Dudley, is now number 95 in the national Lawn Tennis Association rankings for girls aged 12 and under – and her rating is expected to rise on Monday when youngsters who have turned 13 move up an age group.

The "tennis-mad" 12-year-old, whose heroes are Spanish champion Rafael Nadal and Russian Maria Sharapova, has been playing the sport since the age of four and is on court at least six days a week. Her mother Claire Colling – herself a ladies' "A" team player at Wall Heath Tennis Club – said: "She's so tennis-mad that forcing her to take a break is nigh on impossible."

Lisa recently clinched the LTA 12-and-under Staffordshire County Girls Singles title. That win catapulted her from 131st in the national rankings to 95th.

Her coach at Tipton Sports Academy, Kieran Beattie, said: "Long-term, I think she has a bright career ahead."
