Rangers offered ex-Walsall defender
Stafford Rangers have been offered former Walsall defender Tom Haynes as they look to increase their options at the back.
Stafford Rangers have been offered former Walsall defender Tom Haynes as they look to increase their options at the back.
The 18-year-old was released by the Saddlers last season and has been training with AFC Telford, but his name has been circulated to Rangers manager Greg Clowes.
Clowes retains strong links with Telford manager Andy Sinton and his assistant Darren Read, a former Rangers No 2, which could see Haynes head to Marston Road on trial.
The Rangers boss also retains an interest in Crewe right-back Oliver Turton and asked about midfielder Kelvin Mellor, but was flatly refused for the latter.
Mellor worked under Clowes at Newcastle Town and spent two months on loan at Rangers last season, but has featured for Crewe from the bench in their last two games.
Turton has yet to play for the League Two club this season and Clowes is hoping for an answer about the 18-year-old later this week.
He said: "Kelvin is a player I have worked with before but he's on the bench for Crewe, at the moment, so that was flatly refused.
"There may be an opportunity for Oliver, they are going to get back to me later in the week. He's an extremely good right-back, one of the best young right-backs I have seen in a long time.
"We have Luke George but he played in the centre of defence on Saturday because he is a great header of the ball, probably one of the best we have got at the club."
