Wolves star Tai Woffinden goes into tonight's double-header at Eastbourne on the back of his finest performance of the season in a black and gold race jacket.
The 21-year-old posted a 15-point full house in Monday's win over Eastbourne and put it down as his best Wolves showing of the year, both in terms of the way he rode and the points he compiled.
"It was a good night, I'm really happy," he said. "I'm just trying to keep building.
"If you look at my scores over the last couple of weeks, it's been a steady progression and I just have to keep it up to the end of season.
"I'm just trying to think a lot more, be a lot smoother. I don't need to be going as fast into the corners as I used to.
"I'm just thinking about everything on the track more – trying to be safe on the bike and not crash.
"And it's working. It's crazy, the amount of crashes I've had – and I broke my shoulder on a BMX bike!
"It's been tough but those knockbacks will make me stronger at the end of it, 20 years down the line."
Wolves are first on at Arlington this evening with a 7pm start before the Eagles then start all over again against Coventry at about 9pm.
Eastbourne: 1 Bjarne Pedersen, 2 rider-replacement for Lukas Dryml, 3 Simon Gustafsson, 4 Lewis Bridger, 5 Joonas Kylmakorpi, 6 Cameron Woodward, 7 Timo Lahti.
Wolves: 1 Freddie Lindgren, 2 Ty Proctor, 3 rider-replacement for James Grieves, 4 Tai Woffinden, 5 Peter Karlsson, 6 Henning Bager, 7 Joe Haines.
Lakeside 51
Birmingham 42
BIRMINGHAM were left frustratingly short of a point on their travels when going down to a 51-42 Elite League defeat at Lakeside last night.
The Hammers always looked the likely winners after taking the lead as early as heat three, but the Brummies stayed in touch and took the battle for the bonus league point to the very last race.
Davey Watt proved to be a decent choice of guest for the suspended Krzystof Kasprzak, scoring 10+1, and Daniel Nermark rode well for his 11-point haul, which included a tactical ride victory as they fought back from trailing 30-18 after eight races.
Lakeside looked to be heading to another comfortable home win, but Nermark's double-point defeat of Kim Nilsson and Ty Proctor in heat nine saw Graham Drury's men stage a mini fightback.
Aaron Summers and Danny King then gave them an even better chance of getting something from the match with a stunning 5-1 in heat 12, which left them trailing by just five-points (40-35) with three races to go.
Lakeside responded with a 4-2 in heat 13, but, with Summers winning a shared penultimate race for the visitors, there was still something to race for in the final heat.
But sadly the Brummies came up just short of their target as the home duo of Lee Richardson and Jonas Davidsson raced to a last-gasp 4-2 over Watt and King.
Lakeside: Lee Richardson 13, Jonas Davidsson 11, Peter Ljung 9+2, Kim Nilsson 7+1, Ty Proctor 6+2, Robert Mear 5+1, Piotr Swiderski R/R
Birmingham: Daniel Nermark 11, Davey Watt 10+1, Aaron Summers 10, Danny King 7+1, Claus Vissing 3+1, Ulrich Ostergaard 1, Ales Dryml 0.
