Rangers boss wants win for derby
Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes has challenged his side to beat Whitby and "change things" going into Bank Holiday Monday's derby at Hednesford.
Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes has challenged his side to beat Whitby and "change things" going into Bank Holiday Monday's derby at Hednesford.
Rangers have yet to taste victory with Clowes as boss in the Evo-Stik Northern League this season but are at home tomorrow, before the trip to Keys Park on Monday.
Clowes' men turned in their best performance of the season at Marston Road on Tuesday but were still beaten, in a narrow one-goal game against league leaders Chorley.
But Whitby, managed by former Newcastle and Northern Ireland international Tommy Cassidy, are also winless this season and struggling in the division.
And Clowes believes if Rangers can get their first victory tomorrow the Hednesford game - the respective club's first league meeting since March 2006 - will take on a whole new dimension.
He said: "If we win tomorrow, it changes things for Monday, results breed confidence and I am up for the challenge, I am looking forward to it."
Striker Nick Wellecomme, who left Rangers for Hednesford last year, was at Marston Road on Tuesday to watch his former club in action.
Wellecomme worked under Clowes at Newcastle Town but the two will be on opposite sides on Monday.
Clowes added: "Nick said to me 'if you are playing like that, it's going to be a good game.'
"He's a lad, make no bones about, I would like at Stafford Rangers, but he's part of the plans at Hednesford."
