Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Jack Byrne will resume his suspension when the season opens with the visit of Gateshead in the Blue Square Premier.

Byrne still has four games to run of a five-match ban, stemming from a red card for violent conduct from the penultimate game of last season at Rushden & Diamonds.

The tough-tackling midfielder will not be eligible to return until the home game with Southport on Saturday August 27.

Harriers could opt for a competely new look in the middle of the park tomorrow with new signings Kyle Storer, James Vincent and Scott Phelan all available but Callum Gittings, a find from last season, is also in contention.

Jack Cresswell, who signed in the summer on non-contract forms, is a doubt for Harriers with a hamstring strain, while Michael Briscoe is still not completely fit after a back injury.

Harriers still have 19 players to choose from after a busy summer of transfer activity, which has seen 12 new players arrive at Aggborough.

The home team go into tomorrow's match as favourites against their Tyneside visitors, who finished eight places below them last season.

And Harriers boss Steve Burr is expecting one for the purists against Ian Bogie's men who, like their hosts, play a game that is pleasing on the eye.

Burr said: "I thought they were one of the best footballing sides in the division last year.

"I am sure they will be wanting to push on and do better this season – it is a tough opener for us.

"Hopefully, our supporters are pleased with what they have seen in pre-season and are looking forward to it.

"As always, we are hoping we can get off to a good start."
