Kidderminster Harriers striker Marc Williams believes he will go in Saturday's big Blue Square Premier kick-off a better player after the benefits of a full pre-season.

Last season's loanee is in line to start his first competitive game as a permanent fixture, in the season opener at home to Gateshead.

The former Wales under-21 international returned to the club this summer, signing a one-year deal, after his release from boyhood club and league rivals Wrexham.

Williams first joined Harriers last August and ended up staying at Aggborough for three months under manager Steve Burr, but league rules on loans meant he had to return to the Racecourse Ground.

But, this year, the 23-year-old has spent all of pre-season with the club, playing in all eight of the first-team's friendlies.

Last summer, Williams only played a bit-part role with the Dragons and came to Aggborough needing games.

And the forward believes that will make all the difference going into the new campaign, a make-or-break campaign after finally severing his ties in Wales.

Steve Guinan, Nick Wright, Luke Medley, Jamille Matt and Robert Thompson-Brown are also jostling for places up front but Williams is feeling better than ever.

He said: "Last year I didn't play much in pre-season for Wrexham, just the away games against all sorts of opposition.

"But this summer I've been involved with all the games and when you're a lot more settled you get a lot more confident within yourself.

"Hopefully I can get back to where I know I can be and, under the gaffer, achieve something again."
