Kidderminster Harriers today announced a 30 per cent rise in season ticket sales with two weeks still to go before the start of the Blue Square Premier campaign.

Harriers have now smashed through the 700-mark, up from 560 season ticket holders at this time last year.

And more could be added to that figure between and the big kick off on Saturday August 13, when Harriers are at home to Gateshead.

But the club are still very reliant on the 'casual' crowd at Aggborough, who pay at the gate for each home game, and played their part in saving the club from financial ruin last season.

Harriers were hours away from administration in February but were saved by supporters' donations, and the fans played their part by continuing to come through the turnstiles as the campaign wore on.

Today, the outlook is a lot brighter but, for that to continue, chairman Mark Serrell warns that backing will be needed again this season.

He said: "I think, as a football club, we have just putting building blocks in place to make sure we are sustainable going forward.

"Behind the scenes we have been working just as hard and, as far as I am concerned, we have merely completed stage one by keeping the club in existence last year – we are now moving on from that to stage two.

"It is definitely a work in progress and to say everything is hunky-dory would be extremely dangerous.

"People came out last year and showed fantastic support of the team and the club when it really was needed – I just want supporters to understand that their support still is essential.

"Realistically, we think that we can plan to make a push towards promotion this season but we could only do that with the support of the whole town and the wider community.

"It is a fantastically buoyant and optimistic place to be at the moment – and that is excellent – but we must always show caution."
