Stafford Rangers new-boy Neville Thompson has been named in the squad to face Stone Dominoes tonight despite suffering from a bruised back.

The striker has yet to make his debut after sitting out last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Kidsgrove, but will make the short trip across Staffordshire to the Springbank Stadium tonight.

Thompson is in a 17-man squad for the pre-season friendly, a split of first-teamers and trialists, as will be the case at Rocester on Saturday.

Danny Read will return in goal for Rangers as both Gareth Barker and Tom Turner will sit out, while defender Grant Goodhead and left-back Jon Sheldon are injured.

Midfielders Glynn Blackhurst, Kevin Street and winger Peter Heler will not be used tonight, while Sean Kinsella is still out with a hip injury.

Alex Forde also misses out after playing in a trial game for another club on Tuesday night, so James Marsden could continue in the middle of the park.

And Rangers manager Greg Clowes will greet a familiar face in the home dugout in Dominoes boss Shaun Hollinshead, who was his reserve team boss at Alasger until Clowes resigned in 2007.

Clowes said: "I am very close friends with their manager, he's a good sort and, if there's anything I can do to help him, I will.

"They play on a really good pitch and they have got a nice little club at Stone, I just hope my players can start doing what they should be doing.

"I want to see their application and attitude when they get someone who is not as technically good as them and I expect them to match their effort."
