Zoltan Gera is on course to complete his return to Albion after boss Roy Hodgson confirmed his ankle surgery went to plan.

Hodgson expects to wrap up the signing of the Hungary international in the next few weeks, after an operation to repair damaged ankle ligaments went smoothly.

The Baggies have agreed to re-sign their former forward, providing he makes a full recovery from the operation he underwent a week ago.

And Hodgson expects Gera to be available after sitting out the first three matches of the season through suspension.

The Baggies boss said: "Zoltan's operation went well and now we've just got to see how he recovers.

"But we are very hopeful that he will recover fully and our medical staff will pass him fit and he will sign for us.

"Funnily enough, he should be fit around about the time he will be eligible to play."

Albion's attempts to land a new goalkeeper also continued today, with Hodgson confirming former Baggies man Tomasz Kuszczak has been considered.

The Poland international is set to leave Manchester United this summer and has held talks with the Baggies, but s believed to be below both Robert Green and Ben Foster on the club's wanted list.

Hodgson needs a new No 1 after Scott Carson left to try his luck in Turkey.

The head coach said: "We are in need of a goalkeeper and Kuszczak is one of the many names that we have considered."
