Kidderminster Harriers defender Tom Sharpe has become the club's 21st contracted player for next season after today signing a new one-year contract.

Sharpe is also now the club's longest-serving player, joining from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2009, after Chris McPhee joined Torquay last week.

But the 22-year-old has flitted in and out of the side and only made 14 starts last season, before an alarming case of bad luck ended his season.

The centre-back was in the team when he dislocated his left kneecap in a game against Crawley, which finished his campaign in March.

Harriers then signed Luke Jones and Tom Marshall this summer, as well as signing Michael Briscoe to a new contract.

There was no word from manager Steve Burr on whether he wanted four central defenders, but that question has been answered today with the news that Sharpe has signed up for 2011-12.

And boss Burr has urged Sharpe to make the most of the opportunity.

He said: "Tom has always been an important part of things for us here and, last year, he's again had a lot of bad luck.

"He has another opportunity with us for this season and it is a chance for him to kick-on again."
