Stafford Rangers new-boy Paul Donnelly admits his summer switch to Marston Road is a dream move as he prepares to face his first club Port Vale.
Donnelly is in pole position to become the club's new captain, after following new manager Greg Clowes to Rangers from Newcastle Town.
And Rangers first pre-season friendly on Saturday will reunite the defender with his boyhood club, who gave him 12 Football League appearances.
The 30-year-old then drifted off into non-league football with Stone Dominoes, Nantwich and Witton Albion, before joining Town in 2008.
For three years Donnelly was Clowes' captain and, in coming to Rangers, the stopper believes he is on the road back to the big time.
He said: "I want to play at the highest level I can and, after turning 30, this is something I was hoping would come along.
"We nearly got there with Newcastle Town last season but it wasn't to be, now I am looking forward to doing it with Stafford.
"It's a good opportunity, this club gets a lot of support and I am looking forward to it."
Donnelly has also told Rangers fans what they can expect to see from his, as the club switch to the Evo-Stik Premier League next season.
He said: "What you will get is 100 per cent commitment for me, I am not shy of working hard at all.
"I am a defender who likes to get on the ball and play, that's something I have always done, and people say I read the game well."
