Kidderminster Harriers new-boy Mickey Demetriou believes his move to Aggborough represents an opportunity for him to find a home in the game.

The 21-year-old was handed a one-year contract last week having spent the back end of last season with Eastbourne, who Harriers relegated from the Blue Square Premier by taking a point against them in April.

Demetriou played centre-half in that game and his ability to operate anywhere on the left and even in attack was an attraction for Harriers boss Steve Burr.

But it deviates somewhat from what, so far, the manager has looked for in new signings - Burr likes his players to know and be based in the area.

Demetriou has spent most of his career down south but has angled for a move to the Midlands, going on trial at Championship club Leicester.

The utility man has also been with the Glenn Hoddle academy in Spain and admits a move to Harriers is a golden chance for him to succeed.

He said: "I am at the stage now where I need to give it everything I have got wherever I am and it just hasn't happened for me down south.

"I have got an opportunity and a shot at Kidderminster now and I have to make sure I have a good season.

"The management team were quite keen for me to come up and get involved, they think they can help me as a player and I want to do my bit to help the club."
