Jason Welborn proves he can 'cut it'

Tividale's Jason Welborn believes his decision to take a fight at Bedworth Civic Hall on six days notice is proof he can 'cut it' in the light middleweight division.
Welborn will have only spent three weeks out of action when he faces Bheki Moyo tonight, last beating Rick Boulter at Walsall Town Hall on June 4.
And the 25-year-old wants to look his best on fight night after popping into his sponsor Matt Cooper's new salon, Matt's Barber Shop on Birmingham Street in Oldbury Town Centre, for a trim this week.
It was only last Sunday when Welborn was offered the bout but he has maintained his weight since his last contest, as his girlfriend Sarah Hales is taking care of all his dieting and nutrition.
Sarah is now a Weight Watchers advisor after losing two-and-a-half stone on the program, initially only joining the course to get back in shape after giving birth to the couple's nine-month-old daughter, Daisy May.
Welborn had two broken bones in his right hand to recover from over the last month but insists making the weight has not been a problem.
He said: "I used to always struggle with my weight because I am naturally big, I used to walk around at 15st when I wasn't fighting.
"Getting back to 11st was a struggle because I wasn't doing it right but, now, I am nearly always at 11st 4lb or 11st 5lb.
"I dedicate to boxing, people know that I train hard and I have got the power, I am a naturally strong kid.
"I just need more experience now, that is the only thing I am lacking.
"I am fit and I am raring to go, it's looking up for me this year and things are starting to go right for once."
Welborn heads off on a two-week family holiday to Cyprus after the fight but will be back in the gym next month, ready for his next appearance at Walsall Town Hall in September.
Titles are still the target and Midlands champion Jamie Ball, undefeated and growing in stature, is the man to beat at regional level.
Coseley's Ball is expecting to step up to English title level but the belt could soon be vacant as it's holder, Brian Rose, could be paired with British champion Prince Arron.
But Welborn would be happy just to get in the mix.
He said: "I wanted to get another fight in and September is when the season starts picking up again so, come the end of July, I will be back in the gym getting ready for it.
"Boxing is boxing - I want the titles and, if there are belts out there for me, I will go for them."
