Kidderminster Harriers have signed midfielder Jack Byrne to a new and improved two-year contract that will keep him at Aggborough until the summer of 2013.

The England C international already had a year left on his deal after the club exercised an option in his last contract, which expired at the end of last season, to extend it for another campaign.

But Harriers have instead decided to reward the 21-year-old, who turns 22 next month, with an extended contract on better wages, after a breakthrough 18 months at Aggborough.

Byrne was playing part-time football for Redditch when he became manager Steve Burr's first signing for Harriers in March 2010 and he is the club's third longest-serving player behind Chris McPhee and Tom Sharpe.

This season, Byrne has stepped up to international level and won two caps, in the International Challenge Trophy semi-final against Belgium before figuring against Portugal in the final.

The tough-tackling midfielder has so far played 50 games for Harriers, scoring eight goals.
