Former Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has revealed his desire to return to management.

The 64-year-old has been out of the game since suffering a heart attack two years ago while Toon manager.

Kinnear revealed his plan while in Birmingham yesterday – saying he would love the Villa job and would take his former assistant at Newcastle, Chris Hughton, with him.

The former Nottingham Forest, Luton Town and Wimbledon boss admitted he would love to take the reins at a club like Villa.

He said: "I would love the job. I am desperate to get back into the thick of things.

"They know me at Aston Villa and, given the opportunity, I would love to get in there and turn things around for the club.

"I would bring Chris with me as assistant, it would be a great chance for me and Chris to team up again.

"I want the opportunity to talk to them. I want to talk to them and tell them what I would do."

Kinnear had now been given a clean bill of health by doctors and was ready to return to the stressful world of football management.

Kinnear revealed his plans while in the Second City yesterday for a charity cricket match at Sutton Coldfield's Walmley Cricket Club.

"I've got the all-clear and I'm ready to go again," he added.
