Tipton's Lee Glover is hoping to take home the International Masters featherweight title as a belated birthday present.

Amateur star Glover tops the bill for the first time as a pro at Walsall Town Hall tonight, co-challenging for the vacant belt with rugged Scotsman Dougie Curran.

Glover turned 24 last Friday but his birthday celebrations have been put on hold, as 'the Tipton Slasher' targets his first title in the paid ranks.

And Glover will have reason to party if he becomes a champion tonight, in front of his friends and family on West Midlands soil.

He won't have to go far for a celebratory drink, either, as dad Lee senior runs the Tilted Barrel pub on the high street in Tipton.

That's the plan, at least, for Glover.

He said: "I have had to put my birthday party off, but to win my first title would be a good present.

"I don't really drink anyway and I wasn't going to go out until after the fight.

"My Dad owns a pub, so maybe they are putting something on for me."

Curran comes to town with a history of spoiling parties and upsetting the odds, as Davey Savage will testify after their fight in February.

Savage went in with 11 straight wins since turning pro but Curran bested him to take a points win, and Glover is determined to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to him.

He said: "I am just happy to be fighting for my first title, hopefully I can win it and move on.

"I am taking this as a hard fight, he's meant to be a tough kid and that's what I need - someone to put up a good fight.

"But I think I have got a lot more punch power and, from my amateur background, a lot more boxing intelligence."

There will be tickets available on the door for tonight's show at Walsall Town Hall.
