The former Newcastle Town boss was unveiled at Marston Road yesterday and wants patience as he bids to breathe new life into the club.
He succeeds Matt Elliott, who quit last month following relegation from the Blue Square North to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division.
And Clowes, who guided Newcastle to the Evo-Stik First Division South play-offs last season, wants fans to keep the faith.
"There's time to get us back up but it won't be this year," said Clowes, who is joined by No.2 Dorian Garner. "It's probably one of the toughest jobs in non-league and it's not going to be done overnight.
