Wolves put up their best ever show in speedway's Elite League Pairs before being knocked out in the semi-finals.

The club has never gone remotely close to winning the event, but four wins at King's Lynn for Fredrik Lindgren last night took them close.

Tai Woffinden's broken collarbone ruled him out, but Ty Proctor stepped in to partner the club number one.

They made a poor start, dropping a maximum 7-2 to Peterborough under the 4-3-2-0 scoring system.

But they worked their way back into contention and needed a 6-3 or better from their last group race, against Swindon, to squeak past the Robins on countback.

Lindgren reeled off a third successive victory and Proctor held on to the vital third place from Wolves asset Nicolai Klindt.

But despite yet another race win in the semi-final for 'Fast Freddie,' Proctor was unable to dent the Poole pair of Chris Holder and Darcy Ward.

Belle Vue edged through to meet the Pirates after Peterborough's Troy Batchelor fell in the other semi, but Holder and Ward finished in the grand manner to lift the trophy.
