Stafford Rangers manager Matt Elliott today vowed his side will not give up on their fight to stay in the Blue Square North.

Rangers' relegation worries came to the fore again after Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Workington which, coupled with survival rivals Hyde and Gainsborough both winning, sent Elliott's men back to second bottom and a point from safety.

The manager must now pick his players up for tonight's training session at Marston Road with four games left that will decide their future in the division, starting with Saturday's visit of Droylsden.

But Elliott is also conscious of the fact Rangers' were unbeaten in three before Saturday's blip, with several players growing into roles in his young side.

Their never-say-attitude was the main factor in a run that had seen the team lose just twice in their last seven league games.

And Elliott has declared no-one at Marston Road is going to roll over and let the club tamely slip out of the second-tier of non-league football.

He said: "It's not all doom and gloom, these lads don't drop their heads, they carry on and that will serve us well if we can continue to do that.

"All of their responses have been very encouraging and I have expressed to the players that, if we are going to do this, we need to do it in a correct manner, because we have pride as people and as footballers.

"Hopefully we can do that between now and the end of the season because avoiding relegation, taking all things into consideration, would be a very big achievement for this set of players."
