Matt Elliott fumes after Rangers lose
Stafford Rangers manager Matt Elliott tore into his players after the club were plunged back into the relegation places with a no-show at Workington.
Stafford Rangers manager Matt Elliott tore into his players after the club were plunged back into the relegation places with a no-show at Workington.
Rangers' fight to stay in the Blue Square North took a blow with Saturday's 2-0 defeat and, coupled with a 3-0 home win over Hinckley for survival rivals Hyde, dissolved their two-point cushion above the trap door as they go back to second bottom.
Four games now remain for Elliott's men to save their skins starting with a home double-header over four days, with Droylsden first up at Marston Road on Saturday.
And the Rangers boss admits his side are going down if there are continued repeats of Saturday's performance, where goalkeeper Lee Evans kept them in the game with a host of super stops.
It was an off-key display from a Rangers team unbeaten in three before their blip at Borough Park and Elliott concedes there cannot be many more between now and the end of the season.
He said: "We got what we deserved – absolutely nothing. We didn't look at the races and we were fortunate to go in at half-time goalless, getting lucky two or three times.
"It wasn't a typical performance from us, particularly of late, but looking at the game you would have thought it was them who needed the points more.
"We should be scrapping for our lives, but we didn't do that and paid the price. Without a number of good saves from Lee Evans it could have been embarrassing.
"We need to recharge our batteries and show more energy, more commitment and be a bit more physical."
