Stafford Rangers boss Matt Elliott believes his side could have turned a corner after they came from behind to breathe life into their Blue Square North relegation fight.

A goal down at half-time on the back of two heavy home defeats inside seven days, Rangers did not just lay down and die against Blyth Spartans, scoring twice in the second-half to run out 2-1 winners.

A crowd of 334 supporters were on hand to witness the win and, while it was an improvement on the 260 who watched last Tuesday's visit of Boston United, is unlikely to be enough to stave off the 40 per cent cut in the playing budget that is expected to be implemented this week.

On the pitch, a first goal since returning to the club for Marco Adaggio and a winner from man of the match Ben Mills pulled the team to within three points of safety with a game in hand on Hyde, who sit one place above Rangers and the safety line but lost 3-2 at Solihull Moors on Saturday.

And Elliott has paid tribute to the supporters who turned out and didn't get on the players back when the chips were down on Saturday.

He said: "The lads were buoyed by the backing of the fans at half-time. At 1-0 down they were expecting to come in for a bit of a roasting again, but the fans were very encouraging.

"They know that if they go out and battle they will get the support of the crowd. They went out in the second-half with a point to prove.

"We have been awful at home in recent weeks and the crowd have rightfully had their say.

"But it was nice to see everybody pulling together and this attitude could be the difference between getting relegated and staying up."
