Lee Vaughan hails Harriers support
Kidderminster Harriers right-back Lee Vaughan has saluted the supporters who have stuck by the club through their recent financial troubles.
Kidderminster Harriers right-back Lee Vaughan has saluted the supporters who have stuck by the club through their recent financial troubles.
Harriers were hours away from administration earlier this month before they were saved by a donation from a group of fans, who then turned out in their droves for a season-best attendance of 2,930 in the last home game against Altrincham.
Some 92 supporters went to Cambridge for last Friday's Blue Square Premier game, where the team won 2-1 to climb into the play-off spots - albeit only for a day.
Fleetwood beat Grimsby on Saturday to dump Harriers out of the top five although they have a game in hand, another long trip away from home at Darlington tomorrow night.
Off the pitch, the club are not financially out of the woods yet but healthy support has been keeping them going, which has not gone unnoticed by the players.
Vaughan is used to big crowds in non-league football after playing for AFC Telford last season, but the Aggborough faithful have really captured his imagination.
He said: "Like you have seen, with the financial situation, the fans have really got behind us.
"Whether it's financially, or coming to Cambridge on a wet Friday night to watch us, they have backed us all the way and we have rewarded them.
"It has given us an absolutely massive boost. We're a close-knit group anyway in the dressing room, but it's just great to see how the fans have come through for us."
