Kidderminster Harriers striker Lee Morris is facing a race against time to be fit for Friday's Blue Square Premier game at Cambridge.

Morris has missed the last three games with a thigh injury, which is expected to heal within a month, with this the third week of his recovery.

The 30-year-old has been able to step up his rehabilitation this week but has yet to join full training ahead of Friday night's game, although he will undertake a fitness assessment today with physio Gavin Crowe having completed a five-kilometre run with the squad at Wyre Forest yesterday.

But the trip to Cambridge could come too soon for the former £3million man, as could next Tuesday's game at Darlington.

He said: "It's progressing really quickly now and I am on course but I am running out of time a little bit, so I am not sure about Friday's game and the following Tuesday.

"It's really up in the air at the moment, I don't want to say yes but I don't want to rule myself either of the games out either.

"But, personally, I think it's a bit of a long shot."

Harriers have been able to cover Morris' absence by bringing in long-standing target Sean Canham on a month's loan from League Two side Hereford.

Morris was at Edgar Street last season and was able to get the lowdown on the new signing by speaking to his former Bulls team-mates Adam Bartlett and Richard Rose.

And, by rights, the reports were glowing.

He said: "I have spoken to a couple of the lads at Hereford who rate him really highly and I would like to play up front with him if I can get myself back in the team.

"That's the way football is, wherever you are, you have got to fight for your place."
