Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Jack Byrne has hailed the team's fighting spirit in battling through a five-point deduction to keep alive their play-off challenge.

Byrne was recalled to the team and scored in Saturday's 4-0 thumping win at Hayes & Yeading, to put them sixth in the Blue Square Premier.

Harriers were docked five points earlier this month for a charge of financial irregularities and the punishment has already been taken from their tally.

But no one at Aggborough is giving up on their dream of the play-offs, Byrne has revealed.

He said: "A lot of people were looking at us and thinking 'that's it.'

"But there's fighting spirit in that changing room and we're looking to push as far as we can go - hopefully it will be enough."

Harriers rediscovered their killer instinct on the road after a 1-1 draw at Forest Green in their previous away game, as the home team at Church Road were clinically taken apart.

That was down to a bit of sharpening up behind the scenes, according to Byrne.

He said: "That's what we've talked about. Forest Green was exactly the same - these are the teams we feel we should be beating and getting back those points that were deducted.

"To be fair we've played some good football in hard conditions - the pitch was bobbly and it was cold so it was a good result.

"They did have a few chances but we have worked on it in training, a lot of finishing and shooting, and I think that showed."
