Harriers to make Chris McPhee call
Kidderminster Harriers have placed top scorer Chris McPhee on the transfer list ahead of their Blue Square Premier home game with Barrow.
Kidderminster Harriers have placed top scorer Chris McPhee on the transfer list ahead of their Blue Square Premier home game with Barrow.
The club have decided they want the nine-goal utility man off the wage bill at Aggborough, where the 27-year-old commands the highest pay packet of all of the playing squad.
Harriers are not thought to want a fee, as McPhee is out of contract at the end of the season, but are eager to get him tied up with another club by the end of next week at the latest.
Manager Steve Burr must now decide whether to run the risk of playing McPhee in the meantime, where he could pick up an injury which would stop the club moving him on, or remove from him from the team altogether ahead of tomorrow's game.
Burr said: "It's obviously disappointing that we have had to take this step, as you never want to lose your best players and Chris has done very well for us this season.
"The club has made the decision and we need to respect that."
Harriers have also had their five-point penalty imposed by the Football Conference today, their sentence for a charge of financial irregularities, leaving them ninth going into tomorrow's fixtures.
On the pitch, Burr has fitness doubts on defenders Tom Sharpe, Michael Briscoe and Lee Vaughan, along with midfielder Jack Byrne, for the Barrow game.
It will be revenge for Harriers, after they were beating 2-1 at Holker Street by tomorrow's opponents last weekend.
And Burr is looking for the sort of home form that saw them thump Kettering 4-1 the last time they were the hosts at Aggborough.
He said: "It's great to be back here playing again, especially on the back of a great win against Kettering.
"We have one or two little knocks at the moment, but we will have a look and see what we've got.
"Hopefully tomorrow we can pick the right team to get the right result."
