Stafford Rangers defender Jermaine Johnson has dedicated Saturday's win to Vauxhall Motors to new boss Matt Elliott - and his predecessor Tim Flowers.

Elliott managed in his first game, after losing once as caretaker, what Flowers couldn't do in eight attempts - win a Blue Square North match.

In fact, it was Rangers' first league win since September and a result which halves the gap between themselves and safety to three points, going into tomorrow night's trip to Harrogate.

It took the one goal to see off Vauxhall, scored by the club's longest serving player Andre Francis, although Johnson himself went close after having a shot blocked.

Fortunately, it didn't come back to haunt the Rangers defender who dedicated the win to the new manager in charge.

He said: "The gaffer is a good guy, he's a genuine man. He wants to do well for us and we want to do well for him, so that win was definitely for him. And I am sure Tim is very happy for us as well.

"But it was mostly for the fans, they have supported us through a hard period and stayed positive.

"Finally we have got a result and now we need to push on from here, it was nice to get a win under our belts and it was well deserved.

"We have probably played better over the last few games but the main difference is, this time, we have found the back of the net."

New striker Shane Benjamin, signed from Racing Club Warwick in Friday, climbed off the bench to set the goal up and push his claims for a starting place tomorrow night.

And Johnson believes the latest arrival to Marston Road will prove a useful addition.

He said: "It's a fresh face and Shane is a good guy, he's good around the changing rooms as well.

"I would like to think that anybody who comes in will do a job for us."
