Stafford Rangers manager Tim Flowers is set for showdown talks with Ross Davidson after the midfielder expressed his wish to leave Marston Road.

Davidson wants out of Rangers after losing his place under the new boss, with Midland Alliance club Bridgnorth leading the race for his services.

The 21-year-old called Bridgnorth assistant boss Tony Dinning, a Rangers team-mate last season, to explain his situation last week.

However, Dinning and boss Lee Mills will not move until they have been the green light by Flowers, who must now decide whether Davidson is in his long-term plans.

The former Port Vale first-teamer currently has Darren Wrack and loan signing Sean Kinsella in the team ahead of him, while winger Levi Reid can also play in the centre.

Should Davidson depart, he would become the first regular inherited by Flowers to leave, with only second-choice goalkeeper Tom Harrison and loan right-back Ashley Wooliscroft gone from Chris Brindley's squad.

The Rangers boss has also let Oldham defender Rod McDonald come and go in one of five loan swoops since taking charge with Sebastian Harris, Garyn Preen, James Ellison and goalkeeper Robert Ambrusics still at Marston Road.

His latest addition, Tipton's free-scoring striker Danny Campbell, still awaits his debut with the Boxing Day derby at home to AFC Telford on Boxing Day in grave doubt because of the weather.

Big things are expected of Campbell after 28 goals already this season at Midland Alliance level, but the challenge will be to reproduce that sort of form in the Blue Square North.

But Flowers believes his new striker has the sort of predatory instincts that would succeed at any level.

He said: "Danny's record is very, very good. It isn't in the Blue Square North but, if you are a goalscorer, you are a goalscorer.

"The people who don't panic in front of goal tend to be able to do that at whatever level it is.

"He's got a bit of pace about him, he prefers to play off the shoulder and in behind.

"He will be in the squad for the next game for sure and it gives me further options up front."
