Stourbridge's Kevin McCauley has admitted he has took a fight at four days notice to get over the pain of losing his Midlands welterweight title earlier this month.

McCauley will make a rapid return to action in a light middleweight contest against Dee Mitchell at Birmingham's Holiday Inn on Monday night, just 16 days after losing the area belt in a narrow points call to Sean McKervey.

The 31-year-old only took the fight on Thursday night, hasn't sparred at all and wasn't back in the gym until Tuesday.

But McCauley is, at least, free of the flu that plagued his performance in the later rounds against McKervey and winning a six-rounder against Birmingham's Dee Mitchell, who was lined up for a Midlands title shot himself at light middle last year, would end 2010 on a positive note.

And that is what has enticed McCauley back in the ring.

He said: "I think I can beat this kid, I am definitely the boxer out of the two. He's not bad but he's not amazing, if I take it to him there's a good chance I might get a win for Christmas.

"I want to get back on schedule and this is a quick chance to do it. There are some good fights out there for me next year and I want to stay busy.

"I should be relatively fit from my last fight and I am over the flu, so I don't really need to spar because I think I am sharp enough."
