Kidderminster Harriers defender Mark Albrighton admits the competition for a place will be fierce when he gets the all-clear to return to the squad.

The 34-year-old sat out last Saturday's 2-1 win over Eastbourne with a recurrence of an ankle injury but, having trained twice already this week, hopes to be fit to travel to Barrow at the weekend.

But Albrighton faces a real fight to start the game, with Michael Briscoe and Tom Sharpe earning rave reviews as Harriers' latest pairing in central defence.

Ollie Thorne is also waiting in the wings after, like Albrighton, losing his place in the side.

And the team are flying on the pitch, unbeaten in six Blue Square Premier games, with only goal difference separating them from the play-off places.

All Albrighton, approaching veteran status, wants to do is play but, with the form Harriers are in, accepts that may take time.

He said: "I have been around the block and I know I have got to wait for my chance.

"If we was conceding three of four goals every game I would be knocking on the manager's door, but when can I say when we are doing well?

"I can do a lot better, I have been in and out of the side because the team has been doing well and it's difficult to get momentum.

"I am working hard in training but it's nothing like playing in an actual game.

"No one complains about not being in this team, that is the best thing about it, whoever goes in has the 100 per cent backing of everyone, we don't have whingers or moaners.

"Of course I want to play but it's down to me to get myself back in the side."
