Stafford Rangers manager Tim Flowers will tell under-performing players to shape up or ship out after a damning assessment of the current squad.

Flowers has had a week on the training field without a game and four weeks in the hotseat at Marston Road, as the countdown begins to Saturday's home game against Hinckley.

A two-week break from Blue Square North action has given the Rangers boss and his assistant Matt Elliott the chance to properly run the rule over the squad, some of who could be moved on to free up room in what is a threadbare budget.

True to his word, Flowers has not let anybody go before giving them a proper chance to impress but expressed his dismay last week after some players missed training.

And the manager is ready to act should the situation continue.

He said: "We are absolutely nowhere near where I want us to be, we need to be fitter, stronger, more organised and disciplined - everything.

"Every session we have done has been hard, but I think the players have appreciated what we are trying to do.

"We have tried to make it bright and technical but, at the end of the day, you have to do the physical work as well.

"I expect us to improve and, we don't, I will keep making changes. It's as simple as that."

Flowers will complete a month as manager on Sunday and feels there is a long way to go before Rangers can turn a corner.

He said: "I am still very much sorting out this football club and that may still take a while, but that is what I am going to do.

"It's a massively tough job, but it's a good learning curve and one that I am going to meet head on."
