Stafford Rangers midfielder Ross Davidson has hailed the professional approach of manager Tim Flowers and compared the new regime at to his time at Port Vale.

Davidson was in the starting line-up for Flowers' first game in charge on Saturday, a 2-0 home defeat to Gloucester, after being brought back into the team for caretaker boss Steve Wynn's one game at the helm.

The 21-year-old's future at Marston Road had looked to be in doubt after being dropped during the closing stages of Chris Brindley's reign, even going further down the non-league pyramid to play a game for Evesham in the Southern League.

But Davidson put a real shift in on Saturday as Rangers went down to 10 men after Darren Wrack's first-half red card and, with the former Walsall star soon to be suspended for three games, will be much needed in the coming weeks.

And the former Port Vale starlet - who made 26 appearances in the Football League - can already feels the benefits of life under Flowers and his assistant Matt Elliott.

Flowers and Elliott played under his Vale boss Micky Adams at Leicester and Davidson can see the similarities in how the trio operate.

He said: "It's been like being at a pro club, similar to when I was at Port Vale. The management team played under Micky Adams and they have got a lot of ideas that he had.

"Everyone has been spot on with how it's organised, training sessions are all game related and based on certain things - keeping possession, movement off the ball, that sort of thing.

"They have a got tough job on their hands with the situation the club is in, but it's a fresh start for everyone because everyone is still a new player to the gaffer.

"He was writing down a lot about us on Saturday and over the next couple of games he will get to know his best side."
