Tim Flowers' call to Rangers fans
New Stafford Rangers manager Tim Flowers has called on supporters to flock to Marston Road and get behind the team for his first game in charge.
New Stafford Rangers manager Tim Flowers has called on supporters to flock to Marston Road and get behind the team for his first game in charge.
Flowers will be in the home dugout for the first time with his new assistant Matt Elliott tomorrow, with Gloucester the visitors in the Blue Square North.
Fan reaction to the new manager will be gauged by how many come through the turnstiles at Marston Road, but the initial response to the appointment of the former England goalkeeper has been positive.
However, on the pitch Rangers are still in the midst of the form that led to Chris Brindley's resignation, without a win in four going into tomorrow's game.
Flowers knows it and addresses a chronic lack of goals as the team's major shortcoming, with eight in 10 matches so far and none registered away from home, barring a 2-0 win at Ilkeston that was expunged from the league records.
But the manager believes the fans can play their part tomorrow, by getting the adrenalin pumping through the players with their vocal support.
He said: "We want to start off on a positive note and to have 700, 750 or whatever it is cheering us on has got to help.
"I would just ask everyone who is there to get behind the players - we will drag them across the line if we have to!
"But it's down to us to excite our supporters, we need to start creating chances to do that as we are not scoring enough goals at the moment."
Flowers had the club's new chief scout Danny Bishop watch Gloucester last weekend, when tomorrow's visitors beat Harrogate 3-2 at home.
The Rangers boss also saw the Tigers in action twice last season, when he was helping out coaching at league rivals Redditch.
He said: "Almost all of the teams at this level are well organised and set pieces are always a threat.
"They have got pace in attack, experience at the back and have had a decent start to the season."
