Kidderminster Harriers will not be appealing the straight red card shown to defender Aaron Griffiths in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Kettering.

The left-back, making his first league start for the club, was dismissed just three minutes in the second-half of the game at Rockingham Road, for a challenge on Jean-Paul Marna that was deemed violent conduct.

Referee Steve Cook produced a red card straight away, even though Griffiths had appeared to have got enough of a touch on the ball to change it's direction.

Harriers manager Steve Burr watched the incident back on DVD yesterday and had his suspicions confirmed - it was a ball-winning challenge.

But, even with that, the club will not be appealing the decision, feeling that a case must be iron-clad to stand a chance of success.

So Griffiths will miss the FA Cup match York in the FA Cup, along with the games against Southport and Rushden if the cup tie doesn't go to a replay.

It's a bitter blow for the 20-year-old and one that Burr feels is harsh.

He said: "It looked as if Aaron had won the ball and, having seen it back, there's absolutely no doubt about that.

"But, unfortunately, these days an appeal has to be very, very good to stand a chance of succeeding and everything has to be right.

"It could be perceived that there is intent from the lad to harm the player with his trailing leg, even though we don't believe that was the case.

"So having weighed that up, we don't feel it would be worthwhile going through the appeal process."
