The new boss of Stafford Rangers will not need to drastically overhaul the squad to bring the good times back to Marston Road - caretaker Steve Wynn insists.

Wynn is in temporary charge as the search for Chris Brindley's replacement continues, with the former assistant manager taking charge of last night's training session.

Part of his job has been to allay the fears of players who believe a changing of the guard will lead to wholesale change at the club, with the team not exactly setting the world alight in the Blue Square North with eight points from nine games.

Only captain Craig McAughtrie and Ben Mills are on contract at Marston Road, putting the future of any number of the 17 other first-team players in doubt under a new regime.

Change is inevitable, admits Wynn, but the caretaker boss believes whoever takes charge could do a lot worse than to place some of his faith in the current squad.

However, the 4o-year-old also concedes that some will indeed fall by the wayside.

He said: "There's a good nucleus of players at the club that they are going to inherit, so I wouldn't imagine there will be a massive change of personnel.

"But one or two may fall foul of a new manager's opinions and be replaced with people who they have worked with at previous clubs. That's the way it has always worked, you tend to have your own players and you develop with them.

"They will not be in a bad position, from that point of view, because we only have two players under contract.

"The worse thing a new manager can have is when you go into a club and there's 14, 15 contracted players on the books.

"You are very limited in what you can do then."
