Kidderminster Harriers defender Mike Williams is refusing to believe that his international career will end after his last game for Wales' semi-professional team.

Williams will play in tonight's International Challenge Trophy game against Poland at Airbus FC's Airfield ground but, regardless of the result, his country cannot qualify and will be out of the competition after the match.

It will also be the last time the Harriers left-back can play as the team is effectively an under-23 side, with his 24th birthday coming two weeks today.

But at a relatively young age he still believes there is time to relaunch his career on the international stage, having been capped at under-19 and 13 times at under-21 level.

His former boss at under-21 level, Brian Flynn, is also in caretaker charge of the full national team of a country that has given opportunities to players from the lower leagues before.

With that in mind, Williams is keeping an open mind ahead of what could be his last game in a Wales shirt tonight.

He said: "Whenever you are playing for your country it's about pride, we can't qualify but it's my last game and I want to finish on a high.

"I have played for Wales all the way up to under-21 level, now the under-23s but I have got to be realistic, I don't expect to be playing for the full national team at the moment.

"But you never know, Brian Flynn knows me from the under-21 team and you can see he is going to be bringing a lot of young lads through.

"I am realistic but, at the end of the day, it's not impossible and it's something to strive for."
