Kidderminster Harriers have been officially put up for sale after chairman Barry Norgrove outlined his plans to leave the club.

The chairman is prepared to walk away from to accommodate a potential takeover and will relinquish all control if it comes to pass.

Norgrove has served the club for over a decade and was vice-chairman before buying the club in 2005 as the head of a business consortium, which purchased the controlling interest from Lionel Newton.

The Norgrove family have long had links to the club going back to Barry's father Hubert, who was a club coach during the 1940 and 1950's.

But the chairman, who has suffered misfortune in his business dealings of late with property development suffering because of the recession, will leave Aggborough completely if new owners can be found.

He said: "I have all I possibly can but I just feel now that, with my own business struggling, I am not in a position to take Kidderminster Harriers forward in the way I would like.

"We need fresh investment to get where we want to be, at the higher end of the table, but I just do not have the finances to do that and I feel I am holding the club back.

"We are looking for somebody or a group to buy the club and I am willing to take a step back to help that happen.

"I want absolutely nothing for myself here - just for people to come in and work, as I have, as hard as possible for the progress of the club.

"We aren't in any massive debt or danger at this moment, but we are at a stage now where every club needs a financial backer."

There are no offers on the table to buy Harriers as it stands, with Norgrove now set to channel all of his energies into finding a new owner and leaving the club in the right hands.

He said: "There are people out there looking for football clubs - I know that for a fact. I have made this decision and it is final.

"I really do hope that we can find the right person or people to help push us on."
