Don Broadhurst is looking to come back with a bang and get a title back around his waist at the first time of trying at Birmingham's LG Arena.

'The Don' will compete with Najah Ali for the vacant International Masters bantamweight belt tonight, his first fight since British title heartbreak last December.

It's been 10 months of hurt for Broadhurst since a below-par display saw him lose his shot and his Commonwealth super flyweight crown in the process, losing to champion Lee Haskins on points.

But at 26 there's plenty of time for Birmingham's best little man to get his career back on track, although Ali won't roll over for his illustrious opponent tonight.

However, Broadhurst wouldn't have it any other way.

He said: "I can't wait for this fight and I will be back with a bang, I am sure of it. It's going to be tough but that will bring the best out of me.

"Najah is game, strong and throws a lot of punches, so he is going to be in my face a lot.

"He's going to be well up for it, because if he beats me he's right up there in the reckoning."

Broadhurst was originally supposed to fight for the vacant English super flyweight title, after being named as a co-challenger by the British Boxing Board of Control.

But when it became clear that the other man in the equation, John Donnelly, would never get down to the weight, Ali was brought in and the bout was moved up to bantam.

The match was only made two weeks ago, two months after the show and Broadhurst's involvement were first announced.

That left him training for weeks with no opponent in mind, although Broadhurst insists that has no bearing on his fight tonight.

He said: "It's not like I can just have a game plan for anybody in particular, I still have to train hard for a 10-round fight and I am expecting a tough test.

"I have been practicing different styles, like I normally do, I put the work in and no-one can take that away from me.

"I have come off the back of a loss and I have got to do something to get back on the ladder, with a couple of good performances I don't see why I can't get back to where I was.

"My back is against the wall, some people might have written me off but at their peril be it so."

Tickets are still available for the show and will be on the door at the LG Arena tonight.
