Stafford Rangers captain Craig McAughtrie is looking to put in a sterling performance on Saturday to repay the team before his suspension.

The skipper must sit out the FA Cup second qualifying round tie at league rivals Eastwood next week, after his red card in the 3-1 defeat to Stalybridge Celtic last weekend.

But McAughtrie is permitted to play in Saturday's home game against Brian Little's Gainsborough Trinity, with Rangers desperate to pick up points after losing three games in a row.

Two uncharacteristic errors from their captain sealed their doom last time out, an unfortunate own goal followed by a trip in the box for a red card and the penalty that made it 3-1.

His Rangers team-mates spent all of Tuesday's training session at Marston Road telling him they win together and lose together, but the 29-year-old still feels he has something to prove going into Saturday's match.

And McAughtrie is literally raring to go and anxious to put the Stalybridge nightmare behing him.

He said: "As soon as something happens like that, you are dwelling on it until the next game, so all I want to do is be back out there playing and get it out of my system.

"I let the team down and they are going to be without me for it. I slipped to try and block the own goal then for the penalty his heels caught my knee, the referee gave it but I thought the red card was very harsh.

"It's three points gone but we have got to get over it, kick on and look to win the game on Saturday."
