Captain urging Harriers to kick on
Kidderminster Harriers captain Keith Briggs has urged his team-mates to keep up the good work after two wins in a row for the first time this season.
Kidderminster Harriers captain Keith Briggs has urged his team-mates to keep up the good work after two wins in a row for the first time this season.
Saturday's 3-1 win over Hayes & Yeading at Aggborough made it six points from two games, following on from a 2-1 win at Altrincham.
Callum Gittings stole the headlines in their latest success, with a Man of the Match performance in setting up two goals and scoring himself.
But captain Briggs insists it's a team effort and a platform to build on, heading into another home game on Saturday against Cambridge.
Harriers had found it hard going after an impressive opening day win at York, beating last season's play-off finalists 2-1 away from home.
Steve Burr's new-look side had to wait another five games for a win before two came along in quick succession, with his players hoping the team have turned a corner.
Briggs is one of many still settling into the club after joining in the summer, as last season the former Norwich and Stockport midfielder was plying his trade in the part-time game with Burr's former club Stalybridge Celtic.
And the skipper believes it's 'a bit of grit' that has gotten them out of their slump.
He said: "It has been a long time coming and, with how the results have been, it's a big improvement from the lads.
"I don't think scoring goals has been our problem this season, I think conceding goals has been our problem.
"You can't just blame the back four for that - you have to blame everyone as a team.
"We need to be hard to beat, we need to win ugly at times and it can't always be pretty football.
"If we can keep adding that bit of nastiness to our game, that bit of grit - we won't be far off."
