Kidderminster Harriers match-saver Jack Byrne praised his team-mates for not giving up after salvaging a point against Tamworth.

Byrne got the equaliser just three seconds from the end of normal time as Harriers came back from the dead to draw 2-2 yesterday, despite taking the lead as the tables were reversed at Aggborough.

Without the young midfielder's intervention Steve Burr's side would have been consigned to a fourth defeat in their opening six games, on the back of a 3-0 drubbing at Newport County on Saturday.

But Byrne heading home his first goal of the season, from an inviting Mike Williams cross, saw Harriers grab their first home point of the season.

He said: "The lads kept going and didn't stop. Mike put a great ball in for me and I was lucky enough to be there to put it away for the boys."

Byrne believes Harriers are a lot better than their current form suggests, urging his team-mates to keep plugging away ahead of Saturday's return to action at bottom club Altrincham.

With that, the 22-year-old feels that the rewards will come.

He said: "It's gone against us but we've got to address that and keep working hard - we haven't reached our heights yet.

"As long as we keep showing committed performances, a result will come.

"It's early days - we keep saying it but it is - we've just got to start doing it out there.

"We dug in, rolled our sleeves up and we have ground out a result."
