Kidderminster Harriers player-coach John Finnigan is facing an extended period on the sidelines after his troublesome calf injury flared up again.

The 34-year-old is looking at a number of weeks out after breaking down in training, just as he had recovered from a twisted knee and was working towards his first game time of the season.

Finnigan saw last season ruined by ongoing calf problems, which have restricted him to just 18 starts since signing from Cheltenham in the summer of last year.

There's further bad news for Harriers manager Steve Burr ahead of the trip to Wrexham tonight, with defender Mark Albrighton rated as '50-50' with a hamstring injury.

Burr will also definitely be without right-back Lee Vaughan and striker Marc Williams, Vaughan sitting out the last game of a four-match ban and Williams unable to play as he is on loan from Wrexham.

The manager had tried to bring in another loan signing to plug a gap in his squad, but it appears nothing will be done before Saturday's trip to promoted Newport County.

Harriers head to Wales tonight to play their first away game since the memorable win over last season's play-off finalists York on the opening day, which has been followed by the disappointment of back-to-back home defeats, a 4-3 loss to Southport followed by Saturday's 3-1 reverse against Mansfield.

Burr admits they need a York-esque performance tonight, but in the first instance is looking for an improvement on the Mansfield display.

He added: "There was no harder place to go than to York but we can't keep going on about that.

"The players have got to produce that kind of performance week in, week out if we're going to compete.

"I felt that on Saturday that one or two fell short of that from what we have seen."
