Stafford Rangers are preparing for the home match against Guiseley under the assumption strikers Ben Mills and Nick Wellecomme will not be available.

Both are big doubts for tomorrow's game after being replaced in Tuesday's win over Solihull Moors, Mills with a pulled thigh muscle and Wellecomme with an ankle injury.

Wellecomme has since undergone an X-ray which has confirmed there is no break, but there is still enough bruising to make walking on the ankle a problem.

Manager Chris Brindley has given them both a "slim chance" of playing, but was working on using one of his squad as a makeshift striker at training last night after attempts to sign a player to fill the void drew a blank.

But Rangers have midweek match-winner Chris Sterling raring to go up front, with defensive duo Craig McAughtrie and Jermaine Johnson ready to return at the back.

Johnson is unlikely to be risked just yet and has only just returned to training after a hamstring injury, but captain McAughtrie is likely to be restored straight back to the team after a two-match ban, with either Mark Dudley or loan defender Harry Davis to make way.

Rangers welcome a promoted Guiseley side to Marston Road who cannot be underestimated, after stunning Brian Little's promotion-chasing Gainsborough with a win away from home in midweek.

Brindley's men were also getting off the mark for the season on Tuesday night, with the manager looking for more of the same tomorrow.

He said: "There are no easy games in this division and they are a big, strong side.

"We just need to concentrate on our own football, the lads were fantastic against Solihull and gave it everything they have got, that's what we need from them again.

"As long as they compete like that, that's all we can do."
