Rangers boss is looking for response
Stafford Rangers manager Chris Brindley has demanded a response from his players in their first home game of the season against Solihull Moors.
Stafford Rangers manager Chris Brindley has demanded a response from his players in their first home game of the season against Solihull Moors.
Rangers went down 1-0 on the opening day of the Blue Square North season at promoted Boston United, never recovering from an Anthony Church goal just after the half-hour.
Now Marston Road takes in his first competitive game with the visit of Solihull tonight, who beat Blyth Spartans 2-0 at home on Saturday, as the manager warns his side of the need to get up and running as soon as possible.
It took Rangers until the third game of 2009/10 to register their first points of last season and Brindley must again do without captain Craig McAughtrie, who sits out the last game of a two-match ban, and Jermaine Johnson, who has a hamstring injury.
But both defenders are expected to be back for Saturday's home game against Guiseley, although tonight will come too soon for both as the home side go with an unchanged squad.
However, Brindley is expecting better than what was on show at Boston.
He said: "I had no complaints - Boston were the better side and I was a little disappointed with how we played. A lot of our lads turned in five or six out of 10 performances, we need a little bit more than that tonight.
"We have got two home games in a row now and we need to win at least one of them, it's important that we get points on the board as early into the season as possible.
"We need to make sure we come out, start well and play the best we can. If we do that, we have a chance. If we don't, you won't win any games at our level."
